Modeling Electret Condenser Microphones in SPICE
by Collin Wells, Applications Engineer, Texas Instruments Incorporated
The intent of an accurate sensor SPICE model (such as TI’s Tina) is to allow designers to simulate the full electrical signal chain, including the sensor before going to production. In doing so you can reduce the cycle time from concept to final design and put the final product into manufacturing with a greater degree of confidence. This Technical Note focuses on a way to accurately model an electret condenser microphone (ECM), currently the most commonly produced type of microphone used in applications such as A/V conference systems, telephones, lapel microphones, low-end hearing aids and many other applications that require a low-power way to translate audio signals to electrical signals.
