Signals From Noise: Calculating Delta-Sigma SNRs
by Dave Van Ess, Principal Application Engineer, MTS, Cypress Semiconductor

Understanding the operation of a Delta-Sigma (Δ-Σ) analog-to-digital converter (ADC) can appear to be complicated. Many articles and textbooks, when trying to explain the operation, choose to gloss over the basics and have you accept their word that they function the way they do. I refer to this as “Proof By Intimidation” (PBI). Actually, if broken down correctly, Delta-Sigma ADC operation can be explained in several easy to manage portions.
