Electronics Equipment Maintenance
by Dennis L Feucht

Q: Your project articles in Dennis’ Design Den, about how inverter suppliers do not support customers who want to maintain the products bought from them (but don’t mind selling the products to them!), is generally true. I have the same kind of problem with test equipment that I use on my electronics workbench or have in my office. I don’t have the largest budget in the world for maintaining equipment or other electronics, and I find that having to send equipment back to the supplier to have it fixed is becoming another scam, like the after-market automotive parts racket. Why should I have to pay a few hundred dollars to have the factory fix a failure that I can fix with an hour of troubleshooting and a $2 part? Do you have any suggestions on how I might address this vexing problem?
