Low-Cost Commercial Inverter Redesign
by Dennis L Feucht

By now, you might very well be among the multitudes of people who purchased a low-cost commercial inverter. It is not unlikely that it is still in your car or truck, awaiting an outing or emergency for which it was intended. As an engineer or technician, you probably tried it once or twice to make sure it worked. And it is not unlikely that if you have used it on a regular basis, it has failed. Hopefully, you could not bring yourself to throw it away, and still have it for refurbishing.

In this inverter redesign article we will look under the hood of a typical consumer inverter product, discover where the design has cut corners and how we might avoid their consequences in an improved design. But first, some background on commercial inverters will lead into redesign.
