Whether you actually clicked on this link deliberately, or accidentally stumbled here while searching for the latest YouTube video, I’m glad you stopped by! And now that you’ve discovered us, I invite you to come on in, pull up your favorite computer chair, grab a mug of coffee, and stop by each week as we serve up another hearty helping of the tastiest technical tidbits we’ve imported from the far corners of the DSP universe.
It’s taken a few years, but I’ve finally gotten around to giving digital signal processing technology a home of its own on our web site. Since DSPs have found their way into everything from VoIP systems and cellular base stations to washing machine controllers and solar power inverters, you probably know that we’ve already been regularly covering DSP-based products and technologies on a regular basis in the networkZONE, audio-videoZONE, and other sections of EN-Genius Network. But since DSPs have their own unique set of design challenges, I figure that it’s high time the folks who work with these critters got their own space that’s dedicated to information on the latest chips, tools and technical know-how.
Rather than simply covering the standard DSP beat, it’s my intention to expand this section’s horizons to include some of the less traditional products and applications that employ digital signal processing. Besides the honking-large Giga-MAC-class processors that lurk inside DSLAMs, PON head ends, and cellular base stations, we’ll explore the embedded DSP cores that are becoming an essential part of everything from automotive control systems to high-end audio equipment. We’ll even take regular expeditions into unfamiliar territory where DSP might mean a piece of logic blown into an FPGA or a configurable processing array. But wherever our travels take you, we’ll bring along expert guides from industry who can help you make sense of it all, and make the best use of the new advances in your next design.
This section will be evolving over the next few months as I learn more about the technology, the tools, and the applications that are of the greatest interest to the DSP community. During this time your feedback, suggestions, and requests will be even more important than ever. Even if you haven’t written me in the past, please take a few moments to drop me a note to tell me a little about what you do and what I can do to make your job a little easier and, hopefully, a little more fun. I’ll be looking forward to hearing from you.
