Vishay Intertechnology Says…
VFT6045C: Twelve 45 V TMBS Trench MOS Barrier Schottky Rectifiers for PV Solar Cell Bypass Protection
Wide range of current ratings from 10 A to 60 A and VF down to 0.33 V typical at 10 A
Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. expanded its offering of TMBS Trench MOS Barrier Schottky rectifiers with 12 new 45 V devices in three power package options that feature a wide range of current ratings from 10 A to 60 A. With extremely low forward voltage drops down to 0.33 V typical at 10 A, the rectifiers are optimized for use in solar cell junction boxes as bypass diodes for protection.
The devices released today include the dual-chip V(B,F)T1045CBP, V(B,F)T2045CBP, V(B,F)T3045CBP, and V(B,F)T6045CBP. Each device is offered in the power TO-220AB, ITO-220AB, and TO-263AB packages.
This release is for a dozen 45 V Trench MOS barrier Schottky (TMBS) rectifier diodes in dual configurations with current ratings of 10 A, 20 A, 30 A, and 60 A. All four ratings are available in the three classic power packages of TO-263AB, TO-220AB, and ITO-220AB which all offer maximum operating junction temperatures of 150ºC (200ºC in dc forward current without reverse bias for less than 1 hour). The cathodes of the diodes are the common connection to the central pin. The parts are specifically designed as protection diodes for photovoltaic solar cell bypass and they offer low forward voltage drops and very low power losses for high efficiency operation.
Taking the ITO-220AB 60 A VFT6045CBP as our example the rating is 30 A per diode with a surge current rating of 320 A for an 8.3 ms single half sine wave. The instantaneous forward voltage for each diode is a typical 0.54 V at 30 A and 25ºC ambient falling to 0.47 V at 125ºC. With a reverse voltage of 45 V the maximum reverse current for each diode is 50 mA at 125ºC ambient.
These are going to be truly huge volume parts and, at the moment, will virtually corner the bypass protection market for PV solar cell operation. The pricing examples examined show that they will also be very profitable devices for Vishay – which they thoroughly deserve.
The complete family of TMBS diodes is in production with pricing quoted at $0.60 in less than 10-k piece lots. Our specific example here, the VFT6045CBP, is quoted by Mouser at $1.50 in 1000-piece lots.
