International Rectifier Says…
AUIRS2016S: 150 V High-Side Driver IC For Automotive Gate Drive Applications
International Rectifier, a world leader in power management technology, introduced the AUIRS2016S for automotive gate drive applications including common injection rails, diesel and gasoline direct injection applications and solenoid drivers.
The AUIRS2016S is a high-voltage power MOSFET high-side driver featuring an internal Vs-to-GND recharge NMOS. The device’s output driver features a 250mA high pulse current buffer stage. The channel can be used to drive an N-channel power MOSFET in the high-side configuration, operating up to 150V above ground. The AUIRS2016S also provides negative voltage spike immunity (-Vs) to protect against catastrophic events during high-current switching and short circuit conditions.
“The AUIRS2016S is a robust, highly reliable IC designed to meet the rugged performance needs of automotive under-the-hood motor control units, targeting energy-efficient applications such as diesel and gasoline direct fuel injection systems,” said Henning Hauenstein, vice president and general manager of IR’s Automotive Products Business Unit.
EN-Genius Says…
The story with the AUIRS2016S is really its ruggedness with AEC-Q100 automotive qualification. It is a high-voltage (up to 150 V offset) power MOSFET and IGBT high-side driver. There is one high-side output from the on-chip MOSFETs with an internal low-side Vs recharge nMOS making the device immune to spikes and very tolerant to dVs/dt.
The logic input – which is filtered ahead of the level shifters – is compatible with standard 5 V CMOS or LSTTL, while the output driver can provide peaked output source and sink currents of up to 250 mA with Vbs at 7 V, and 500 mA with Vbs at 16 V, both at 25ºC. Vout can be between 4.4 V and 20 V.
The deadtime delay is set 70 ns for turn-on and 6 µs for turn-off.
The AUIRS2016S will find many automotive applications in fuel systems with magnetic valve applications. It will be highly profitable for International Rectifier, although, as with all auto applications, design implementations might take 18-24 months to get to production levels – about eight months of that may have already been knocked off the waiting period, however, as the data sheet is dated January 26, 2009 for an August 2009 release date.
The AUIRS2016S is in production in SOIC-8 and is priced at $0.98 in 100-k piece lots.
